HIGASHIURA was an outstanding the most excellent agricultural economist and was\nalso a powerful agricultural association leader in pre-World War II Japan. But he died\nJust after defeat the War leaving his manuscripts on rent theory in the hands of his\ndaughter，unpublished.\nStudies on rent theory after WWII in Japan concentrated on the rent theory of K.\nMARX. However，leading scholars returned to theory of A. RICARDO as the result of thier\nstudy of MARX. The manuscripts of HIGASHIURA，on the contrary，focussed on the critics\nof RICARDO'S theory，thus enabling HIGASHIURA to relativize RICARDO'S theory. That is the\nreason why this paper is bringing the manuscripts of HIGASHIURA before the public eye a\nhalf century after they were written.\nThis paper will introduce two chapters ; one on the rent theory of Richard Jhonse，\nanother on the rent theory of Henry Carey.
