| 内容記述 | The progressive aspect (as demonstrated by Mohri(1980) and Ohye(1982)) can be used as a means of commenting on an act which has previously appeared in the discourse. In this paper I investigate the way in which the temporal relation between two acts, as indicated by the progressive aspect, makes it possible for the act described in the progressive to represent an interpretation of the other act presented before. In Chapter 1, I consider how an act in the progressive is grasped by the speaker in terms of time. And in Chapter 2, I argue that this plays an important role in the "explanatory" use of the progressive, and leads to some different shades of meaning in interpreting the act concerned. | |||||||||||
